Block for Linda

The family have left after visiting for Christmas and headed back to Melbourne and Mildura,  finally I can get some serious sewing done. Linda our wonderful administrator is my this months swap partner. She asked for red, white and blue and here is a sneak peek. It will get posted tomorrow, I need to go do some more block
sewing for my Bee in Oz swap. Sue

For Jackie in Kansas

Jackie requested star blocks in red, black, and white. Turns out I didn't have a lot of red options in my stash, although I love these black and white paisley prints as backgrounds. I love the design of the star on the left, but felt that my corners didn't match as well as I wanted, so I made the one on the right. Much better technically, but I wished I had enough of the darker red to have reversed the red and the red-and-white print.

Jackie, which do you like better?

Wonky star for Jorie!!

This is my first block swap and I guess I hit the wrong button because I had my post all ready and it disappeared!

Jorie wanted jewel tones and a wonky star and since I didn't ask if she wanted to see the pic I am just showing a little preview.
I didn't think I would get it done today but I had some caffeine and I just can't stop myself.

I hope she likes it.

From Linda to Shannon

Hello everybody! Well After some confusion with my email accounts I think I finally have everything working right. I hope! After looking at all the blocks being made I am so excited to be a part of this.

For my partner I got the lovely Linda, blog administrator! I am so happy about that. Here is the block she sent to me. I did get it before Christmas. I love that. I love the block. It is so cool. Thank you Linda. Now my next step is getting your made and out to you. TTFN!

Patriotic block for Lana

Hey Lana and other block swappers!

I loved Lana wanted a log cabin block in very traditional red, white and blue colors.  I happen to have a lot of fabric like that in my stash.  But I wanted to do something special with the center so Hello Stately Kitty Liberty!

I decided to make two of every swap block, because it is just as easy to make two as one.
 So Hello Saucy Kitty Liberty.
(notice the wink)
So here are the two blocks.

Lana you can choose which one you would like best Stately or Saucy HK.
I'll mail it out as soon as I hear from you.  This has been fun!
Oops forgot to sign my name.

First Block for Melissa made ;-)

The Cricket was on the TV, and I was able to spend some time in my sewing room ;-)

I made up the block for my January partner - Melissa who asked for a Centennial Tree Block with scrappy leaves - I was a bit overwhelmed when I first saw the instructions - it was rated with 3 PINS difficulty level !!!  ;-)
here is a snippet
It was a very challenging block to make - lots of cutting and squaring up - but I am really pleased with how it eventually turned out.  I hope Melissa likes it.  I am intending to get it in the mail today or tomorrow.
EDITED:   Block has been posted 5 January 2011

That's it for me - back to the real world today with washing and ironing ;-)

Dutchmans puzzle block

Hi All

I thought I would follow the example set by you my fellow block swapers and post a little peek at the block I have made for my January partner. This is my first ever swap block so am a little nervous that my partner, Munaiba, will like it. She asked for a Dutchmans puzzle block in brights / Kaffes fabric. I have to admit this is different to my tastes, but I managed to find some Kaffe fabric in my stash and am happy with the outcome. I have tried some new things this month; I chose to use some fussy cutting of the feature fabric in addition to never having made this block pattern before.
I can't wait to see all of the blocks in full. Happy quilting. Caroline

Another Block for Mary in New Egypt NJ

Okay, so after I finished my first block I got to thinking maybe I should do another one just in case.

So here is sneak peak number at block number 2:
So what do you think? Which one looks more interesting?

A Block for Mary In New Egypt NJ

Please tell me I was not the only one who decided on one block and fabrics and then changed their mind and then did that about three times before they actually made a block!

I finally decided on a block and some really cute fabrics and then sat down and made it. I hope to put it in the mail tomorrow or the day after. Not sure how long it is going to take to travel from Oz to US.

Mary I hope you like what you see so far!

A Block For Brenda in Tennessee

Hello fellow block swappers :-)

Well not only is this my very first swap but it is also my very first block - EVER!!!

Brenda from Tennessee USA of Quilter Raised in the South Blog asked for happy colors like blues, greens, pinks and browns. I think I have managed to get all four into the one block :-) Just to challenge myself a little more. At first I chose really bright colours but after reading Brenda's blog, I realised that our interpretation of bright colours may have been a little different. I then changed my colour choices to try to match colours she has already used to match her tastes.

The fabrics I have chosen have a little bit of an Aussie twist, which I thought would be cool to send overseas.

It has taken me a little longer to get my sneek peek posted. As I do not own a sewing machine, I have been doing this all by hand, and enjoying the process completely, even starting my very first quilt journal as well.

I have also enjoyed getting to know Brenda a little and look forward to learning of Brenda's reaction to my block - will she like it?, Receiving my own block, what a mystery and meeting more of you swappers.

So, after all that - here is a sneek peek for Brenda...

Oh, and Brenda's tip of STARCH, STARCH, STARCH has been invaluable - thanks Brenda.

Have a wonderful day
