Sandi's block is on its way

Sandi your February block is finished. I tried to make it "Autumn / Fall / Halloweenish" for you and definitely left out the mint green. Sorry, no mauve in my stash only violets.

Linda's block is finished - sneak peeks...

Well I finished hand-piecing Linda's block and I'm happy with it. I just hope she likes it. As it's going to be 40 deg C PLUS here I don't see myself venturing out to post it today. Hopefully this week though I'll mail it.
Here are some deliberately misleading sneak peeks. lol Enjoy!

January Blocks(!) from Theresa!

I am a lucky girl!  I got TWO blocks this month from my partner, Theresa!  I asked for red, black and white fabrics and any star block.  She hit it right on the head!

Aren't they lovely??? Thank you so much Theresa.  I love them both.

Block from Melissa

I have received this beautiful block from Melissa for January

thank you Melissa, your colours are perfect,
I just love those rich red and gold tones ;-)

Block Received from Jackie

I received my block from Jackie over a week ago, but we had a lack of sun in San Diego for good photo taking. Jan Block Adventure Received

I asked for a star block with blue, white, and any other colors, and this is perfect! The fabrics/colors are great and the workmanship is superb.

Jackie sewed a stay seam around the edge of the entire block very close to the edge (within the seam allowance, maybe 1/16-1/8"), and that kept it nice and square in its travels. Maybe other folks will find that helpful for next month?

Mine's in the Mail (Finally)

I must have made six different blocks and thought the fabric would be perfect for the block for my partner .... I made them up and UGH ... I didn't like this one, I didn't like that one ... so, I had to go shopping (I've been trying to use my stash .... ) the fabrics I used were great, together they looked great, but, once put together in the block, not so great .... disappointing, but after playing for a few hours I finally got what I am happy with (this actually took me weeks to accomplish). Sew here is a little peak ... I don't want Susan to get too much of a peak before she gets it! I hope she likes it ....

My Block - Love it!!!

I received my block from my partner Susan on Saturday!!! LOVE IT! It couldn't be more perfect ... it is like she knows me! When we were assigned to each other, I had put "star blocks" as my preference, then I looked at her blog and she has a wonky star block on her blog and I loved it .... so I kinda hinted I would like one .... and she make this gorgeous one for me. So lucky!! Thanks Susan ... yours is in the mail (really!) Susan also surprised me and included some of the center fabric sew I can make another one!!! Love it.... I certainly will make another one!

January Block received from Suzanne C.

Pinwheel from Australia

My block arrived from Robyn in Australia, I'm so excited. I pulled it out of my envelope,it and my husband said that is so you. He is right, it so me. Robyn great job, I couldn't be happier!

So Cute! Sea Turtles

I knew the turtles were on their way from Robin's sneak peek and here's a look at the whole block I received Saturday.
Cutest little turtles and the teal/blue is so pretty!  You're right, Robin the tan does look more like sand in person.  It's a great block.  Thank you!!

January Block for Sandi

I have sent Sandi her Halloween inspired block.  I am not sure that Sandi is able to post her pictures, so I will post one here for her.  I know my black and white block is in the mail and on its way to my house, so I will post that picture too, when it arrives : )

Sandi, I hope you like this little witch!

Nifty Paper Foundation Technique

Wow - I see several folks are interested in paper foundation now. It can be daunting if nobody's taught you a "trick." So. . . I just have to share this link to a Judy Niemeyer instructional page that took all the headache out of foundation paper piecing for me and my daughter. It's such a simple concept, yet I couldn't come up with it on my own:

http://www.quiltworx.com/pdfs/foundationpaperpiecing.pdf

If you tried it before and gotten discouraged, you're going to LOVE this. No more agonizing over whether or not your piece is actually going to cover the whole spot you need it to cover after it's flipped over!! (And by the way, you don't need an "Add-a-Quarter" ruler to use the technique - just be extra careful that your normal ruler doesn't slip while cutting.)

My first block has arrived!

This is the sneak peek that Wendy gave of my block.

This is the wonderful block that arrived this week. Beautiful work Wendy, thank you so much!

Mary's Friendship Circle

People seemed so intrigued by the strange angles of the sneak peak for Mary's block! Well, here's the whole picture. It's a block called Friendship Circle that utilizes paper foundation piecing. It was my first foray into that technique, and I must say I really had fun with it! The colors are actually more teal than they show here.

DON'T FORGET!!

Just a quick reminder!  If you haven't already sent out your swap partner's block it should be in the mail no later than Monday, January 25.

I will be sending out emails Monday with your swap partner information for February.

OK.  You may continue sewing now!

Wonky House arrives from Australia

Thank you Jane!! I love my Wonky House. This year I am attempting to be more liberated and Jane made a wonderful block I can add to my Wonky House collection.  And I got a little surprise in my package. What fun this is. I will definitely sign up for next month.   Becky B in Tulsa, OK

It's Here!

Do you remember this peek from Brenda?

Well here is the complete block...

My beautiful block has arrived all the way from the lovely Brenda in Tennessee.
Brenda has managed to hit my colour request exactly, although you just cant see how incredibly pretty and beautiful the colours are in the photo.
I love Brenda's choice of block too - The Bird Of Paradise.

I wish you could see the true colours in this block, the purple is much more vibrant and so incredibly pretty and so too are the aquas.
I also received a delightful little surprise with my block, it made my day, maybe even my year :-)
Thanks Brenda, I LOVE my block.

Double the Pleasure

Today was a great day. I received a double surprise. Kurt sent me his block which is beyond the usual-simple and yet very striking.I love the combination of shapes and colors. My grand-daughter has already claimed it as hers.
But that wasn't all that was in the package. Kurt's terrific wife, Tiffany, sent me a mini-quilt as a thank you for making her husband happy. I am so glad that  he likes the block I made.
I love both my surprises as do my grand-daughter and husband.  My husband says that the quilt is just the right size for a sleep mat for Lil' Sister. I think NOT!!! It is going on my desk top right next to my computer for me to enjoy every day.
Lil' Sister trying out the mini-quilt. Just her size

I've got mail!

Do you remember this preview from Tamera last week?

Well, this is what I got in the mail today.  Isn't it beautiful?  I'll be collecting all types of basket patterns, and my collection is off to a great start, thanks to Tamera.  I love it Tamera!

Sneak Peak for Karen in OR

A bit blurry, but a sneak peak at the block I made for Karen. Will be mailing this off thursday morning. Hope you like it.
Susan P.

Look at this!!!

Isn't this block stunning? It's from my lovely swap partner Caroline in the UK. Unfortunately my camera doesn't do the colours justice. the pale fabric is a delicate shade of duck egg. Just gorgeous! What's more she generously sent me the rest of the Kaffe fabric! Thanks Caroline. I'm really thrilled with this block and your colour and fabric choices.

Block swap from Tulsa OK

Here is the block requested by Jane D from Australia. It goes in the mail today from Tulsa, OK. All fabrics are hand dyed by me!

Yay! :D My first Mother's Dream block arrived from Toronto.

Thank you, Mary!! I love this floral fabric - it makes me think of the cotton fields we drive past here in the South. So grateful that memory will be in my quilt when I have an entire collection of these blocks. :D
(And why, oh why, is the camera blitzing?? That yellow is washed out - it's really a very pretty daffodil yellow.)

Wendy's block

Here's a little sneak peek for Wendy. Wendy asked for ocean colors. I had this turtle fabric that had the right colors. I also had a light tan that looked light beach sand so I thought it would look nice with the turtles. The "sand" is lighter than this picture shows. Hope you like it Wendy. It will be going in the mail on Tuesday.

Sneak peak for Robyn in Australia

Here is a sneak peak for Robyn. She asked for a Friendship scrap block and the colors to be burgundy and creams. I hope she likes it.

I should be getting this in the mail today, if not today Tuesday (Monday being Martin Luther King Jr. day)

Now I'm off to get ready for my quilting group at church. Happy quilting everyone.

Name Your Block - Or Not

I had an idea hit my little pointy head as I was receiving my blocks from Let's Bee Together.  I looked at all of the different blocks and thought "I wonder what the name of this block is?"

I think it would be a good idea to include the name of the block you make with the block you send.  That way you can still do the "sneak peek" without giving it away but the recipient can share the name of the block when they post a picture on the blog.

What do you all think?  Good idea or stupid thought?
